The mission of the Institute of American Music Foundation is to encourage, promote and facilitate folk and traditional music in the home and community.

The Institute of American Music Foundation (IAMF), a tax-exempt, non-profit corporation, is a folk music-based music education outreach organization. IAMF uses Bluegrass, Old Time, Early American, Celtic and other international folk music styles as a basis of curriculum. From the beginning of the training process and throughout life, IAMF encourages music students to play with other people-especially within the family unit.

IAMF philosophy is based on the importance of constant interaction between students, teachers, parents and the local community. Teachers, students and parents are encouraged to create ongoing events designed to bring people together for musical training, performance, interaction and enjoyment. Examples of activities that promote such interaction would include:

  1. Music in the Schools
  2. Music in the Home
  3. Jam Sessions
  4. Workshops
  5. Recitals
  6. Annual and/or semi-annual events such as contests, festivals and concerts.
